About Us

We are pleased to announce a series of panels named ‘’Arbitration School’’, having been organized as Marmara University Faculty of Law, Department of Private International Law and İstanbul Arbitration Centre (ISTAC).  Within the scope of this project, we will discuss different dimensions of arbitration by gathering together with arbitration practitioners from different levels of experience and academics, having legal studies about arbitration. 

’Arbitration School’’ is a project, consisting of series of panels, taking place once a month and is intended to continue regularly for four years. It is planned that each of the panels will be held under the project includes total five people as; a moderator, a young academician and practitioner and a senior academician and practitioner. In the panel, young academicians and young practitioners will make presentations on different and significant topics in arbitration; Senior academics and senior practitioners will review and evaluate the issues discussed by young colleagues in their presentations. In addition, all presentations made during the year will be published in a book at the end of the each year. Our panels take place on the last Wednesday of each month, between 18:00-21:15 at Marmara University Faculty of Law.

In this context, we started ‘’Arbitration School’’ in 2018-2019 term on 31 October 2018 with the panel on "Arbitration Agreement: Basic Principles and the Preparation of Arbitration Agreement’’. We concluded our first year with the panel on "Multi-Tier Arbitration Agreements and Med-Arb" on 26 June 2019. 

We will continue to discuss various issues related to arbitration in our second year of panels, which will take place in 2019-2020. In our second year, we completed thus far our first panel on "Resolution of Corporate Law Disputes by Arbitration"  on 30 October 2019, our second panel on "Resolution of Mergers and Acquisitions Disputes by Arbitration" on 27 November 2019, our third panel on "Initiation of Arbitration Proceedings and Preparation of First Petitions (Request for Arbitration and Answer to Request for Arbitration)" on 25 December 2019, our fourth panel on "Notification and Representation by Foreign Counsel in Arbitration Proceedings" on 29 January 2020, our fifth panel on "Mediation-Arbitration (Med-Arb) and ISTAC Rules" on 26 February 2020, our sixth panel on "Anti-Suit Injunctions" on 29 April 2020, our seventh panel on "Emergency Arbitrator Proceedings" on 13 May 2020 and our eighth panel on "Provisional Measures in International Arbitration" on 27 May 2020.

Our last panel this year on "Costs in Arbitration" will be organized on 24 June 2020 at 17:00-19:00 on our Youtube channel. You may watch the panel live at www.youtube.com/tahkimokulu.

If you would like to attend our program as a participant, please fill out the form available under the section "Register". This section, on the other hand, is related to the attendance of our esteemed colleagues and professors, who would like to attend our panels as a speaker or a commentator.

We would be pleased with the contribution of our young colleagues who are eager to present one of the issues mentioned above and also experienced colleagues who want to contribute as commentator. However, we would like to emphasize that there will be presentations on the subjects limited to the topics mentioned above.

  • When will the program take place?

    The program covers a period of four years. Our first year was completed in the 2018-2019 educational year. Our second year, which will take place in 2019-2020, will start on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 and continue for nine months until Wednesday, June 24, 2020 and will be held on the last Wednesday of the each month between 6 pm-9 pm.

  • What should I do to participate in the program as a speaker?

    To participate in the program as a speaker, we kindly request you to send an e-mail to tahkimokulu@gmail.com, including the following; a. Your current resume (CV) b. Information about which subject(s) you want to present (you can select topics up to 3 subjects, you can order them from 1 to 3 as per your request) c. Aspects you intend to discuss on the selected topic up to 250 words.

  • What should I do to join the program as a commentator?

    To participate as commentator, we would like to kindly request you to send an e-mail to tahkimokulu@gmail.com, including your current resume (CV) and the subject(s), on which you would like to comment.

  • What should I do to attend the program as a participant?

    Our program is open to everyone who would like to be a participant. In order for us to guarantee your access into our university campus, it is necessary for our participants to fill out the form available on our website under the section "Register".

  • Do I have to pay to attend the Arbitration School?

    No, attending the panels of the Arbitration School is free of charge.

  • Where is the Arbitration School going to be held?

    Arbitration School is going to be held at Marmara University Faculty of Law. Marmara University Faculty of Law is located at Marmara University's Göztepe Campus.

  • When will the speakers and negotiators/commentators be announced for each of the panels?

    After considerations made by evaluating documents, having sent by you, speakers or commentators will be announced through our website for the panels, to be held on the last Wednesday of the each month.
