Prof.Dr. Nermin Gözükırmızı was born on June 18, 1951 in İzmit, Turkey. She graduated from Ankara Fen High School in 1967. She entered Department of Botany-Zoology in Istanbul University in 1967 and graduated in 1972 She started as a PhD student at Department of Botanic and Genetic, PhD thesis entitled: Effects of some chemicals and rays on Vicia faba (Prof. Dr. Emine Bilge), defended in 1979. He conducted postdoctoral studies on plant tissue cultures at the University of Houston, USA during the years 1979-1980. She studied at Department of Biology in Istanbul University as an associate professor in 1985 and became a professor in 1993. Professor Nermin Gozukirmizi worked at Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics since 2003. She gave lectures on Basic Genetics, Molecular Genetics and Population Genetics in Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty, Medical Biological Sciences Department. She took part for Establishment of Plant Biotechnology Research Unit at Marmara Research Centre, Research Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, 1992-2006. Her areas of research include plant tissue culture systems and gene transfer, polymorphism and molecular markers, GMO analysis and biosafety and epigenetics and gives undergraduate and graduate level courses in these subjects. She led the international, national and industrial projects in related fields. She has carried out various educational activities related to the application of transgene technology in Turkey. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has actively participated in training activities organized by TÜBİTAK related to the diagnosis of genetically modified organisms. She supervised 20 MSc and 20 PhD theses, and her students (assistant professors, associate professors and professors) contribute valuable information to scientists in Turkey and other countries. She continues her work with the efforts to put new biotechnological systems into practice in our country.
