My research area – broadly – is Mathematical Biology and Engineering, i.e. modeling, analysis and computer simulation of biological and bio/environmental engineering systems. Typically (but not exclusively) this involves (ordinary or partial) differential equations and numerical methods. Much of the work in our research group is motivated by current problems in application areas that I am interested in. I believe in matching talent with problems, so whether the emphasis of a graduate student's work is on the theoretical, computational, modeling, or application side depends largely on the student's interests and longer term goals.Graduate students in my group have published in journals like: Bulletin of Mathematical Biology, Mathematical Biosciences, Mathematical Bioscience and Engineering, PlosONE, Journal of Theoretical Biology, Journal of Bioscience and Bioengineering, etcGraduate students in my group have won awards like NSERC Scholarships, Ontario Graduate Scholarships, OMAFRA HQP Scholarships, MITACS Elevate Fellowships, etc. After leaving the group they found careers in academia, industry, and government.Typically, my research group consists of a mix of undergrads, MSc and PhD students, and postdoctoral fellows. It is located in the Computational Biomathematics Laboratory in MacN501/505/506, close to my own office in MacN508.
